What is Z-Health?

The Answer

I am often asked this question because it is difficult, if not impossible, to find a concise answer. And no, I didn't promise this would be a really short answer!

Z-Health is a neurology-based system for creating pain-free, exceptional athleticism. Wow! That is a mouthful. What does that mean?

 

A Neurology-based System

At the heart of Z-Health is the concept that the brain and the nervous system are "in charge" of everything. You can have really big & strong muscles but if the right signals are not sent to them -- nothing will happen. Similarly, an athlete can become stronger and more athletic instantaneously if we improve the signal strength to the nerves and if we can time the sequence of movements more accurately. This is great news. Now, instead of practicing a poor movement pattern over and over again (hoping we will get better), we can focus on those things that will help us improve our skills.

Inputs from all over our body, including vision and balance information from the inner ear, combine to give the central nervous system a picture of where we are and where we are going. The clarity of this picture is essential to proper movement.

Pain-Free Movement

Chronic pain is not normal. It is common, but it is not normal. Pain is something that is perceived (or created) by the conscious mind in response to information from the nervous system. If we step on something hot or sharp, we should feel pain. This is necessary for us to avoid further tissue damage. When the body has healed after the tissue damaged, we should no longer experience pain.

Sometimes, pain just "pops up". Often this is not the result of tissue damage but rather it is a call to action from the nervous system. It is saying "stop what you are doing" or "you must do something differently". In other words, chronic pain is the response from the brain to something that seems threatening.

Chronic pain adversely affects cognitive function and interferes with efficient athletic movement patterns. Z-Health is committed to eliminating chronic pain so that the athlete can think and move better. This often involves finding and eliminating threats that the nervous system perceives.

Z-Health practitioners are often magicians when it comes to reducing or eliminating chronic pain symptoms. However, there is much more to Z-Health than solving or reducing chronic pain issues.
